Founded as early as in June 1999, The college is a proud initiative of the Shri Cochin Gujarati Mahajan, an organization with over 125 years of history. While predominantly a business community, the Mahajan has always been deeply committed to social responsibility. Their century-long dedication to education began with an aided English Medium UP School in 1921, followed by an unaided English Medium High School in 1963, alongside two thriving pre-primary institutions.

Building on this profound experience in educational management, the Mahajan envisioned a foray into higher education. In June 1999, Seth Ram Bahadur Singh Gujarati College was established to meet the urgent demand for higher education in the bustling commercial hub of Kochi. Generously supported by the late Shri Ram Bahadur Thakur, a leading businessman of Jew Town, the college initially operated in the unaffiliated sector, offering pre-degree and undergraduate courses exclusively in Commerce.

Through the tireless advocacy of the Gujarati Mahajan and the liberalization of the education sector by the Government of Kerala, the college achieved a major milestone: official affiliation with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, starting in the 2002-2003 academic session.

Equipped with this new affiliated status, Seth Ram Bahadur Singh Gujarati College began scripting a new chapter in higher education. Today, the institution is a thriving self-financing college offering a range of prestigious undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including: B.Com (Honours), M.Com, BBA (Honours, AICTE Approved), BCA (Honours, AICTE Approved), Driven by the continued desire of the Gujarati Mahajan to introduce innovative courses, the college is steadfast on its journey to becoming a premier center of academic excellence.
